Personal
  • These are all my pastimes.
  • Here are my top 3 experiences.
  • I write on occasion. Some of my poetry is in Straight Lines; I once handpicked amusing words from the OED Word of the Day archive and expanded them into verse. I have also authored 30-40 short stories, about half in science fiction, none yet published (write to me if you want to read some of them!). Two of these are in Tamil.
  • I have lived in four cities: Chennai, India (1988-2009), Eugene, Oregon (2009-15), South Bend, Indiana (2015-18), and Vancouver, British Columbia (2018-present). I attended SBOA School & Junior College for a 14-year schooling, Indian Institute of Technology Madras for a Bachelor of Technology degree in Engineering Physics, and University of Oregon for a PhD in theoretical physics advised by Graham Kribs.
    • I have circumnavigated the globe thrice. First, I crossed the Atlantic in the summer of 2009 to come to Eugene, Oregon, and the Pacific next summer to go home. Then after a winter break spent at home in 2012, I returned to Eugene by crossing the Pacific; next winter I flew home via the Atlantic. And then in early 2022 I left Vancouver, BC and crossed the Atlantic for a six-week break in India before returning over the Pacific. Since I have been subjected to the "circumnavigator's paradox" — the fact that a global circumnavigator makes one spin more or fewer around the Earth's axis than the Earth itself — twice easterly and once westerly, on the whole I have gained a day in my life.
